Hi everyone! I decided to start a blog. You can find it here (http://randymstaana.wordpress.com/).

Instead of posting some artworks, I've thought of writing about musings and stuff and maybe in the future post some tutorials. Hope you guys can give me some feedback and suggestions.

Thanks, and see you there!

Hi everybody!

I posted a tutorial on my blog as part of a WIP that I am working on that I wanted to share with you. You can find it here:

Character Build in Flash (http://randymstaana.wordpress.com/2007/08/24/flash-tutorial-part-3-character-building-in-flash/).

The character starts out like this:

I hope to work on it in progression, culminating in an actual animated scene.

C & Cs are welcome! Cheers!

Hi Blair! Yup, I am planning on doing an animated scene for the character. Right now I am working on a walk cycle tutorial which I hope to post soon. Just a bit busy with work, so it might take a while. Thanks!

Hi again everyone! In line with my continuing WIP, I've posted a walk cycle in my blog. You can find it here:

Walk Cycle Tutorial Preview (http://randymstaana.wordpress.com/2007/09/11/flash-tutorial-preview-basic-walk-cycle/).

I made a plain, basic walk cycle for the character that I used in my WIP tutorial.

The tutorial for the walk will follow shortly. I just need to get some work deadlines out of the way:) .

As always, comments and suggestions are welcome!

Cheers!

Yay! Look at him go! Very appealing walk cycle Sandrock. I must thank you again for sharing these tutorials. Good tutorials are sometimes a rarity, and charming walk cycles are even rarer (is that a word?) Anyways really nice work.

Your blog is rather delicious, I must say. You should put more pictures of yourself integrated with the drawings, those are great.:) Sweet tutorial by the way. I respect a man that passes his secrets along to the naive youth.

Part 5 is now up and can be found here:

Starting a Basic Walk Cycle (http://randymstaana.wordpress.com/2007/09/17/flash-tutorial-part-5-getting-started-with-a-basic-walk-cycle/).

Looks great Sandrock. I haven't had a chance to read your blog, but I've looked at the pretty pictures. That walk is really nicely done. A basic walk yet there is personality to it. The traveling walk is very nice. It has weight, it's timed well and there is a solidity on the feet that you don't see very often. My guess it that you animated the traveling walk first, then slid the drawings together to make the walk in place cycle.

Again, great work.

Hi Ape! Quite the opposite, actually. I did the walk in place cycle first. The animation is nested inside the comp symbol. I used a feet registration guide (tic marks) to help me determine where the planted foot should be in every pose of the walk. I demonstrated it in my blog.

Once I made the walk in place cycle, I just drag one from the Library onto the stage and let it loop. To make the travelling walk, I then add a keyframe to every pose as it plays in the main stage and then use onion-skinning to match the foot positions.

Thanks for the comments!

Cool Sandrock. I don't know if I've seen an inplace walk cycle work as a traveling walk quite as good as yours. Usually there is skating or foot wiggles. I gotta read your blog. I just don't have much time now a days to read. :(

the Ape
