This is a neat little talk:

I know it's predicatble for me to say but Preston Blair's pages on birds help me. I also have a book on animal anatomy...don't have it in fron of me but it has printed plates of skelatal and musculature.

One of the greatest helps is learning human anatomy. I'm not talking about memorizing every name of every muscle and bone but familairizing yourself with what they do. from there it gives you an understanding using comparative anatomy.

But my greatest education for drawing birds came from pprepariong dinner, believe it or not. WHen I cooked chicken I could unfold the wings, see that membrame from its shoulder to the wrist, look at the legs and realize the drumstcik is its calf; its wishbone its clavicle and so on. Needless to say I'm a little hazy on wing feathers.
