Hello,

How are things in the animation world right now? Has the economy taken its toll in the animation sector?

Depends on where you are, what part of the industry is and what your skill set is.
I'm hearing/reading that quite a few folks are busy again in the Los Angeles area, doing 2D/3D productions. Contrasting that I'm hearing that New York is drying up for the same work. I'm hearing that Vancouver talent are looking for work in general, and yet I have work coming out of Vancouver myself.

I'm hearing that game companies are letting people go, and yet some of my colleagues have had a great past year working with game companies.

Personally, I don't think animators per se have all that much to worry about, and I do think that people that are doomsaying are just those that have become caught up in the talk from other businesses.
The industry is as bad, or as good, as you think it is.
I don't worry about it myself and things tend to work out on their own.
