Hi everyone!

I have been a 3D animator freelance for a while and I'm developing the script of my first short. I have been reading articles, and books about film making, animation, script, and some other aspects. But I can't find any information on how to get investment, grants or monetary support for doing an animated short. Maybe it is because there is not such a thing, isn't it?

Hope to be wrong.

Any clue?

--About My Plan---
I'm looking to do it as cheap as possible so I'm attempting to do it my myself, except for the audio stuff and other external costs (lab, copies, etc ...).

As I mentioned, right now I'm developing the script, but need to start to looking forward for some strategy to get financing support.

The main reason I'm looking for monetary help is because I already tried to finance it by myself. I thought I may be able to safe some money after some time of hard work, then buy the time to do the short but that was not possible. After that I tried to do it on my free time, but I barely have some due I struggle between finishing current job and finding new one. So, seven years of try and error have been pass and I deduct I may just need to get into this if I want to create something one day and hopefully get a living and keep doing it until my last breath. :p

I hope anyone can advice.

---About the project---
In a few words this is what the short will be about:

"A Wire tale" is an animated fiction story about a Wireman pilgrim who arrive to Mock-up-olis and try to teach to the intolerant local plasticine citizens about equity and tolerance. This becomes increasingly difficult because they don't like him, due he looks very different, and Wireman is chased by the crowd and forced to confront a taller-big-muscle plasticine guard for his freedom.

I hope my redaction/spell is well. English is not my first language.

Also I attached a couple of picture of the hero Wireman in 2 poses.

--Conclusion---
So that's it. It is my first short I would like to bring to life and hopefully after this do others that I already have in mind. Hope you may have some clues, ideas or advice that want to share and helps me to make some strategy for the tough way I'll have to walk. I'll be really appreciate that.

Also, thank you for red throw this line. :o

I'll be looking forward to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Oscar Campos. :D

Hi Kumarmator!

Would it be the right way?

I'm not familiar with that kind of work, meaning not paying work, so not sure if it will be honest, ethic or ... not sure how to express.

Let me try to explain: An issue I have, that maybe makes me no so sure about asking free work, is that along my years of try and error I had very hard times on trying to survive (economically speaking), and spent a lot of time of getting some jobs and then then paid, having very few or none free time for work on what I really want. Getting work here is not a good option because there is not an animation industry, yet. So there is a misunderstood of this kind of job, the skills it require, and the talent value, and the salaries... well I get better incomes as freelancer so imagine the salaries.

My point is that I value the time and effort more than ever, and as we know this job takes a lot of both. So, it is indispensable for me to have any economic support for that, and been 100% worry on the project, not on how to pay rent. No sure if I'm right or wrong. What do you think? Please advice.

Not sure if this is what you meant. Let me know if I got the wrong idea.

Thanks anyway for comment, I appreciate that a lot and expect further more if you like.

---By the way, thanks guys for taking the time to answer my poll. I appreciate that too! :D

I'll be looking forward to hear from you!

Regards.
