I wanted to design 2d animations for some time but it seems the softwares are sparse (many more 3d-oriented animation solutions).

What I need to know is : Are there professional (not beginner-level) 2d (not 3D) bitmap-oriented (not vector-oriented, like ToonBoom) packages that run on Win98 ? (e.g. USAnimation Opus asks for min. WIN2K, so does Toonz).

Thank you.

I think USAnimation is also vector based. You could check out Aura, which is bitmap based, but not one of my favourites :-D

check out Flipbook by Digicel (http://www.digicelinc.com). Bitmap based and pretty simple to run, it refers a great deal to old school camera animation with fields and moves, but has terrific ink and paint capabilities.

Have a look at the Tapptoons Animation Studio at

www.tapptoons.co.uk (http://www.tapptoons.co.uk)

It`s for traditional drawn 2D animation and it`s created by an animator.

There`s a free trial version you can download.

Try this program out Plastic Animation Paper, http://plasticanimationpaper.dk/ It's bitmap based, but if I remember correctly, it's only black and white, but I could be wrong.

-2d (not 3D)
-bitmap-oriented
-Win98

if you really must work with win98 it seems Aura (http://http://www.newtek.com/products/vt/aura/index.php) is your best choice

Bauhaussoftware's Mirage would be better but it also requires at least win2k
