Here's one I did after watching The Return of the King Extended Edition. Thsi guy freaked me out, looked like something out of Hellraiser. I present a rough sketch of the Mouth of Sauron. Cheers

Cool a little babie girl. I'm glad to hear she's doing great, what's her name? Little girls grow on thier daddies real fast. Little boys cry like heck or at least that's my experiance, but u luv them either way.

Cool mouth of sauron, i really have to go rent that film. I bought the ones that came out earlier this year and now i'm a little peeved at having to rent it. Or even have to buy it if i like it. What am i going to do with the old ones. Dangit.:(

Thanks for the comps guys! Yeah, Paige is a darling. Right now she is going over the fussy period of 6-8 weeks. Hopefully after this she'll become more relaxed. No matter how much she fusses and cries, I'll always love her though! Here's a pic I did that was inspired by Chap03's Robot Forest pic. Cheers!

Hi Dan!

I absolutely love your work! It's like your drawings are just begging to be animated. I can see them moving in my head (and no, I don't do drugs). I can see some resemblance to some Disney styles, but still very personal and just plain fun to look at!

Danimation
02-05-2005, 10:49 AM
Thanks Jurjen! Glad you like these. For these I only sketched out the characters before hand, then colored them in Flash. The BGs just kinda flowed out from there, I just make them as I go depending on where I want the eye to travel. The Horned Owl took about an hour and 15 mins while the Ragnarok piece took about 2 hours. Cheers!

I did the entire animation by myself, and it took about 20 hrs or so. I'm not really too sure on the time though as it was an hour here and an hour there over the course of a month. I have 2 series of Cereal Killer cards already done. I'll post them sometime soon! Thanks for the comps and q's D!

Thanks Brien! The Supergal took about an hour and a half to color in Flash. Scattered- that idea reminds me of the Incredible scene, when the Dad is in his car. Juggs is much bigger, so it would be even more of a contrast! Cool idea, cheers.

Bookeater,

well, start by watching the gallery posted from Dan in the above thread,
you can clearly see that no matter the topic (monsters, comics, sci-fi..etc), the style remains the same (too cartoonish), its not a bad thing, ofcourse not, i love dan's works!, but.. i just wanted to ask if there is more than meets the eye, an art which is not cartoon characterized.

Nice looking stuff. I've been using a set of Stadtler pens for inking also, but have some other stuff where I've been using a steel nib. You, however, run lightning circles around me.

I'm looking at the Wizard pic (California). What Flash tools are you mostly using there? I'm curious because I note there is no hard outline, just high quality fill. Are you mainly using the paintbrush tool with your sketch on another layer?

Thanks!

Hey Dan great work. I really dig ur style. It's funny in my new gig i have to try and make characters more angular in the way that u make them. Could u give any advice to a fellow animator as to how u think when u do ur drawing or how u come the the decisions as to which lines to make sharp and which to curve. I would really appreciate it.

Also i really dig ur Tutorial I will try it as soon as i get a chance.

Sabertooth, yes?
I had the honour of working with some of your character designs for the last couple of weeks. You know, Fly Guy and his lot. (Got to tweak 'em some, but not much.) Really a breeze working with them, too, very drawable!

Looks great. :) The largest chimney on the right threw me for a second. For some reason the cimney with the house and shadow right above it played a trick with my eyes and at first I though it was a character - like one of the Who's- and I didn't group the shape right for a minute. Once I correctly 'saw' the house then everything now appears normal. Weird.

Hey Dan! Excellent drawings of course! I was wondering how you do your flash drawings. Do you pencil it out first, then scan and photoshop for color or do you draw using the tools of flash (wacom tablet?). Just curious of an awesome artist's method! Keep up the good work.

Danimation
01-13-2006, 08:35 AM
Thanks for the kudos guys! e17jo1, I do the rough drawing first then trace the image in Flash with the line tool. Using the wacom works well too, but can create an excess of nodes which are particularly not good for animation. Thanks again for the kind words! Here's a sketch for today!

There's a LiveJournal community called LifeMeter Comics. They're mad about original renditions of all kinds of video game characters. You could sustain their site for an entire year.
I've never really had anything to do with Nintedno since my brother sold his SNES, but day-um, all that talk about how revolutionary the Wii controller is sure got me interested.
