well, in fact from a lot of different things.

for instance, the little girl on her bumblebee, is my friend.
the two character with there long faces are inspired by a mix of differents animals.
And I really do like plants, flowers and trees.

As for the graphic style, I tried to mix the Belgian Graphic style (born out of our comics) with the Manga feeling.

the whole characters you see here are from a children story my friend and I are working on for the moment. It's a whole world, with different kingdoms and countries. Differents sorts of animals and plants, inspired, of course, by our own world but with a little twist to them.

We still asking ourselves what we will exactly do with this story after that - I mean, of course it's a children book story, yet we are analysing it to see if we can make a script out of it for a long animation, or a series of 26'minutes following the characters from Kingdoms to kingdoms, until the end of the journeys.

All of that means a lot of work... but that's what I like about drawing : a piece of paper, a pencil and youplala you create a whole new world, your own world. :D :D

Joel great stuff, maybe you could put the book up as an ebook. Not sure how you'd handle it if you want to restrict access until payment/subscription, but I know there are some out there. Maybe you could give away free samples to pick up interest.

thank you for your comment. It's a technic i just discovered few weeks ago because I didn't had my pencil with me.
I must say I like it, and what I appreciate the most is the fact that you do not really have the right to be wrong when working with a ball-point pen, it's a way to think hard before drawing.

No eraser if you got it wrong here, he he :D :D

Here another drawing

cartuneman:D

Difficult question in some ways to answer. In my childhood it was Belgian comics (Gaston Lagaff, Tintin, Spirou, The Smurfs), and also, as probably everyone : Disney movies like Bambi, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, etc.
In my teenage years no doubt it was the manga/anime and American Comics: Xmen, Spidey, Strange - Saint Seya, Dragon Ball, Goldorak, Astroboy, Cobra - and of course Akira.
And now it's still Disney, but mixed with Anime, Belgian Comics with American Comics, Dreamworks's and Pixar's movies.

That's for the background, but to say who influence me the most, it was two Belgian Comics authors : Peyo (author of The Smurfs - Johan & Pirlouit) and Andre Franquin (author of Gaston Lagaffe - Spirou & Fantasio).

Yet, on a style point-of-view and as life goes on, I must admit that when I analyse my drawing's evolution, they tend to be a real mixed style - probably more like my own personality in them. :D

really nice style...looks French..certainly not manga....What are your influences? thanks

joelpeet
04-12-2007, 11:31 AM
In fact I was nurished by Belgian (Andre Franquin, Herge, Roba, Peyo, etc) and French comics (Uderzo, Druillet, etc). In the 80's I discovered the japanese art, anime & manga (Katsuhiro Otomo, Hajime Torayama, Myazaki, etc) - and of course Disney animated movies.

So, the influence must be something of a big mix between those styles :D

Here one more

wow, it's a long time I didn't come on the Forum - a lot to read :D

But before reading anything, here a work I made Wednesday - I had time to kill, so after a good scanning of a draft, I put this in Photoshop and start to "paint".

I'm globally satisfied for a 3 hour work. The most interesting thing to do here was to give a sensation of a real furr. No 3D here, only a 2D artwork.

Now, I will look at some of you own new work guys...

ENjoy your day.

Cheers,
Joel:D

ho, the real size of this is a 300x420mm (A3 in short)
