I'm just starting to learn 2d animation and I'm looking for recommendations for 2d animation software. I'm currently testing trial versions of both Toon Boom Studio and The Tab. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Here is a good program, its for pencil testing. It doesn't future onion skinning yet but it's a work in progress. I don't know if this is what you want but it's free and a great start on 2d animation. http://www.giantscreamingrobotmonkeys.com/monkeyjam/

Thank you, tacogrande. I will download and use the pencil test software. I've noticed that the choices of 2d animation software is limited. There are many high-end programs such as Toonz and US Animation but not much for beginners. Moho, The Tab and Flash look interesting but I'm not too sure about the other programs.

Hi Johan,
I am curious if you were able to do a side-by-side comparison of Toon Boom Studio and The TAB since your original post.
If you have, you may wish to revisit your other thread, Toon Boom Studio or The Tab (http://forums.awn.com/showthread.php?t=593), to post your findings.
Let us know,
William
