compression and what not

Started doing some compression on my animations, just wondering does anyone have some tips on compression, so i can put my films online and tips on publishing online.

getting a real pain in the arse because Im compressing high quality stuff from a gigabyte or more down to 20/30megs and its pixalated to mush
