SecondLife Avatar creation questions

Hi guys,

I looked at various pages and FAQ's for this site, and still have some questions, if you'd be so kind as to answer:

If I join up, can I use the tools provided by 2nd life to create my own avatar faces/features/bodytypes etc., or do I have to work off their basic "McDonald's Menu" selections? It seems one can create buildings and props with their offered system (they even mentioned making a butterfly) so can I create "people" as well?

Do I have to buy any software to do that?

I don't have any 3d ware myself so basically, if I sign up as a free user there, is it possible to use their resources myself to create characters as well as "real estate"?

Hey I just joined Second Life recently and from what I can tell if you have a free account you can still use their tools to make your own avatar... well you can modify one basically. You choose a basic one when you register and once you get in you can edit the appearance to whatever you want from what I can tell. You can go in and change gender, skin color, hair, eyes, all of that stuff.

I haven't seen anywhere for making your own content though. I would think they would have something like that but I haven't found it yet.

As for land though I'm not too sure yet if you can build your own or if you have to 'purchase' it.

Maybe you should email the secondlife staff. They seem pretty good about responding to user questions.
