Default What movies should Hollywood remake?

Peter Jackson finally remade that King Kong movie he always wanted to make. It reminds me about when a couple years back when everyone was complaining about how bad that Godzilla movie was, I came up with a fantasy list of movies that Hollywood SHOULD make since their not gonna come up with anything original anyway. Happily, a lot of the movies on my list were made, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe and so on. So I figured that if I made a new list and prayed really hard, they might find their way of being made too. Here’s a few of my fanboy picks for you to agree with, debate on, and hopefully add some. I didn’t check ComingSoon.net so… if its being made, sue me.

Justice League – I’m a bad person. A few months before Christopher Reeve was in his tragic accident, there was fanboy talk about a “World’s Finest” movie, and which “Batman” should be in it. I was so upset when it didn’t happen. Now that there is a new “Superman”, maybe… just maybe… Not that we need another comic book movie though… A new Wonder Woman would be cool! Oh, speaking of comic book movies that we don’t need…

Teen Titans or Young Justice – Now I know what you’re thinking, but I’m not a Teen Titans fan trying to keep it on the air. I think that it’s a movie worthy concept though. Sky High got it wrong though. A teenage superhero movie would rock, just use the REAL Young Justice characters and get Tim Burton or Bryan Singer to direct and you’ve got a winner. Eh, I’ll keep with the comic book theme and I’ll nominate….

Bone – How awesome would a Bone movie be? I’m hoping for a live action / 2D animated mix. Roger Rabbit fans are long overdue for a GOOD live action 2D mix I think. This one’s been on my list since Godzilla by the way.

I’ve got more, but hey, throw an idea out there whether its animated or comic book or not or whatever.

How about, instead of remaking movies that were successful the first time around, they take a stab at remaking the cr@ppy ones and fixing the problems that studio executives and their bean-counting, monkey-in-a-business-suit interference in the creative process created the first time around?

Or is that over the top?

I wouldn't mind seeing James Camron remake all six Star Wars movies. Or maybe Joss Weaton.

Aloha,

In all honesty i dont think films should ever be re-made unless they get to the point that they look so out of date that they become almost unwatchable and cant be taken seriously. King Kong for instance, even though it does show off some of the best stop motion animation for that time, it does look rather bad now. But i wouldnt want to see any films like star wars or films like that to be remade for at least another 60-70 years.

Star Wars and its prequals was what they were, and i think people need to understand and get over that.

its not like the originals were film making briliance or anything.

As for remakes...i dont know. I did enjoy the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Seeing it done so differently was interesting.

It would be cool to see some remakes done from a different characters perspective. I cant think of one that would be a good candidate at the moment though.

I cannot honestly think of a movie i have seen i would like to see again in a different form.

I would love to see a fully animated remake of The Naked Lunch that followed the book more literally, although who knows what kind of rating it would get (XXXXXXXXXXXX.....). Which isn't to say I didn't also love David Cronenburg's film. In fact, I'm prone to tear up at the end. It has to be the saddest ending of a movie I've ever seen.

I also think a great animated movie could made base off of the videogame Ikaruga. If there are any hardcore old-school gamers here, Ikaruga is a really awesome, challenging game.

Alice's Adventure's In Wonderland would be awesome if they remade the movie with art that mimicked the original illustrations! Not to mention preserved some of the more darker aspects notably missing in the Diznay version.

Fritz The Cat could potentially be updated into one badass movie. I consider it the weakest Bakshi film that I've seen so far, although I still like it okay. You'd never get Crumb to go along with it, though, and that's not good.

As for a movie that sucks that should be remade... I have to say Star Wars. The whole sacred little "cannon" universe should be diced up. The remake shouldn't even have "Star Wars" in the title. I'd call my remake May The Force Be With You. This is what would be missing from my remake:

1. Lightsaber duels (doesn't make sense, yet it's in all the freaking movies).

2. Lightspeed. Everything would take place in the same solar system.

3. Aliens. No more Jim Henson Kermit hand-up-my-ass crap.

4. Yoda would be a human being.

5. Darth Vader would be the most scary fucking thing you'd ever seen. No more "buckethead" helmet, color-coded chest interface, and no more skirt-things. Seriously, nothing against skirts, but I'd keep them off Vader.

6. No robot personalities. Everybody hated Jar-Jar so much even though he served the same purpose as c-3po. r2-d2 had an ewok inside of him! No shit! Get rid of all that wacky robot poopie. Makes me sick.

7. Finally, I'd bring the Force front and center. Was there even a "force' in the new movies? Where the hell did all the Force go?!

So, that's how I'd remake some movies.
